57,000 Leaving Cert pupils to get results today

More than 57,000 Leaving Cert pupils across the country are receiving their exam results today.

The results can be collected at schools from 9am and will also be available online from midday.

Figures from the Department of Education show that the overall failure rate in maths has fallen this year from 10% to 8%.

In English, however, the percentage of pupils securing an honours grade on the higher paper has slipped from 77% to 75%.

Students and parents who may be worried about the results can contact a special helpline from 10am on 1800 265 165.

Guidance counsellors will be on hand to answer questions about the points system, re-checks and CAO procedures.
