About FAS

About FAS

FÁS is Ireland's national training and employment authority. It provides a range of services to help people find work and aims to enable people of all ages and backgrounds to have a successful and rewarding career.

Many of the FÁS programmes and schemes are designed for school leavers who may or may not have received their leaving certificate. There tends to be a big focus among parents, teachers and the media on leaving cert points and college choices, but this does not suit all young people. FÁS provides a wide range of options for students who for whatever reason do not go on to study at third level institutions.

All of FÁS’s policies and programmes are designed with the modern job market in mind. The days when people could leave school early and take up a job in any number of businesses and industries are long gone. Employers are now looking for skills and qualifications that give people the opportunity to fit in well when they start work. FÁS training schemes provide just these sort of skills and qualifications. FÁS qualifications are also recognised across Europe and the world.

Probably the most well known of the FÁS programmes is their apprenticeship schemes, which provide young people with a useful trade. FÁS also runs a number of other very useful services for school leavers and those looking to return to education or improve their skills. Details of which are also available in this section of the daycourses.com site.

Anyone looking to enrol in a FÁS course should call into his or her local FÁS Employment Services Office, which has locations all over the country. The FÁS officers will give information and advice on the scheme that suits you, and they should also inform you about other job and career opportunities.

Candidates for FÁS courses are often selected through an interview process, rather than through the results of their Junior or Leaving Certificate. However, entry requirements differ from course to course - for example, some courses require you to have been unemployed for a certain period of time.

For many people unsure about their future prospects, or who know exactly what they want, FÁS can point the way towards a successful and rewarding career.
