Info day for students with disabilities

A one-day event for students with a disability or specific learning difficulty considering their college options in Ireland in 2010 will be hosted by University College Dublin Disability Services in association with AHEAD (Association for Higher Education Access and Disability) and DAWN (Disability Advisors Working Network).

When: Thursday 10th December 2009, 11 a.m - 3 p.m.
Where: University College Dublin, Student Centre - Astra Hall.
The Student Centre containing Astra Hall is located very near the Clonskeagh Gate.

There will be information about Disability Access Route to Education (DARE) and how to complete the CAO Supplementary Forms as part of the (online) DARE process. Check out the kinds of supports and services Universities and Institutes of Technology have to offer and find out about college life from students and graduates with disabilities. 
 
In 2007 there were 3,600 students with disabilities in higher education across the country, and furthermore in June 2008, 12% of the student population undertaking the state examinations availed of accommodations. Students with disabilities are no different to their peers in their dreams and career aspirations. Therefore it is extremely important that they, and their teachers, parents and guidance counsellors are informed about the opportunities and facilities the colleges have to offer them. Thus they know what to expect as they progress to higher education and professional careers.
 
All are welcome, including students, guidance counsellors, resource teachers, learning support tutors, SENOs, NEPS and of course parents.
