Engineers Week in ITT Dublin
Mayor Mick Duff, South Dublin County Council and the Director of The Science Gallery at TCD, Dr. Michael John Gorman will officially launch Engineers Week (8th – 13h February 2010) today in the award winning RUA RED South Dublin County Arts Centre, Chamber Square, Tallaght at 10 am.
Engineers Week is a nationwide event coordinated by Engineers Ireland as part of their STEPS to Engineering program. The aim of the Week is to positively promote engineering as a career and to create an awareness of the wonderful, life-enhancing and exciting challenges that engineers are involved in and responsible for.
It is a week of fun-packed activities for both primary and secondary students where they will have an opportunity to talk to professional engineers from SDCC and academic staff from ITT about what engineers do and what an important part they will play in revitalizing our economy.
Over 1,400 students from the County have been invited to take part in various events and workshops throughout the week which include the following for transition year students:
Traffic Management Scratch Workshop
A lot of stringent planning goes into the management of Traffic. This workshop will bring this process to the students by demonstrating how we model and manage traffic using Scratch software. A visit after the session to our Traffic Management Centre to see how it’s done in real life may prove the highlight of the event.
