Griffith contribute to the maths cause

Griffith College has again provided free maths revision courses for students in the run-up to the Leaving Cert. The programme focused on Ordinary Level Maths and over 700 students gave up their time to attend the four days of maths revision courses provided free of charge in Dublin, Cork and Limerick.

The presenter for the programme was Tomás Mac Eochagáin, the College’s Director of Academic Programmes. Tomás has over 25 years experience of teaching mathematics and in securing excellent pass rates for learners in external examinations.

'In providing the courses and the site [see below], it is hoped to make mathematics truly "accessible", understandable and enjoyable to all. By providing it free, it balances the opportunity for those who would otherwise not be in a position to fund additional support,' says Mac Eochagáin.

The days were split into 90-minute sessions. Each session covered a specific topic in its entirety, covering all question forms since 2000. The sessions were recorded on video and are available online, free to all students throughout the country. The site is available at www.maths.gcd.ie and contains a complete set of revision notes, summaries and videos for the Leaving Certificate Mathematics course at Ordinary level.

'While the site is only live in recent days, many students throughout the country have already spent over 10 hours using and re-using the resources,' adds Mac Eochagáin.
