My Vision for Europe film competition

Three students from Clonkeen College in Dublin, finalists from last year's competition, will join the Oscar-nominated Granny O'Grimm Director Nicky Phelan and Proinsias De Rossa MEP to launch My Vision for Europe 2010 at the Irish Film Institute on Friday. Alex Mulkeirns, Séan O'Connor and Denis Vavasour reached the finals of the first My Vision for Europe competition last year with their video entitled 'contribute' (www.myvisionforeurope.com/videos.html).

The closing date to register for My Vision for Europe 2010 is Friday, 8 October.

To compete, participating teams of 15-17 year old students are invited to create and record a short video on one of three challenges and load them on to www.myvisionforeurope.com. This year's challenges are: to present a new MEP candidate and his/her vision for Europe; to present the story of Captain Europe and his/her powers; or to create a vision of what the EU will be like in 2050. Five teams will then be selected, representing the four Republic of Ireland constituencies and the Northern Ireland constituency for the European Parliament Elections. The selected teams will take part in the finals in February 2011, during which they will get the opportunity to present their visions for Europe.

The overall winning team will be invited to bring their classmates (24 in total) to Strasbourg to participate in the European Parliament's Euroscola project. This project allows students from the EU's 27 Member States to work together for a day, as the MEPs would in the European Parliament.

My Vision for Europe 2010 is being organised by a partnership of organisations, including the European Parliament Office in Ireland, European Movement Ireland, the European Studies programme, Community Relations in Schools, the Michael Sweetman Trust and the European Commission.
