A poll on Gotocollege.ie has thrown up unexpected results regarding the willingness of Irish students to pay college fees.
In response to the question, 'Provided it secures the level of funding sought by colleges and a fair means of parental income testing is implemented, do you think those who can afford it should be required to pay for college fees?', a hefty 64% responded 'Yes'.
32% said 'No', while 4% were 'Not Sure'. Along with education cutbacks in the budget, the potential return of college fees has resulted in several major protests by students in recent weeks.
