New Scholar Card for Second Level Students
The Irish Second-Level Students' Union has announced the launch of their new 'recessionary busting' International Scholar Identity Card. The Scholar card is the only dedicated student ID and discount card for second-level students and young people aged 12-18 and can be used as a recognised form of Student ID and age along with enabling young people to access 1,000's of discounts in Ireland and in over 120 countries worldwide. The Scholar Card follows the international model of the successful ISIC Student Card.
This exciting project has been developed by the newly restructured student representative organisation, the ISSU. The card which costs €13 has been piloted in schools since October is proving to be a huge success with students and parents alike. The national rollout of the card is set to begin in the next few weeks, and the card can also be ordered online from the website at www.studentcard.ie.
Speaking today Niall Dennehy, ISSU General Secretary said: 'This card is the perfect tonic to the current economic climate for students and their parents; giving students the possibility to open their mind to a whole world of discounts and the opportunity to explore the endless savings! We would like to thank the retailers who have come on board offering exclusive discounts to students, and invite any potential retailers who would find the scheme beneficial to contact us.'
The ISSU Scholar Card is an innovative, exciting, fresh and student focused initiative from the recently founded ISSU and has been endorsed by major education and youth organisations; the ACCS, the ASTI, Educate Together, the IVEA, the JMB, the NAPD, the Nationa l Parents' Council post-primary, NYCI, the TUI and Youth Work Ireland.
